1983年生於日本長崎,2007年畢業於愛知縣立藝術大學美術學部雕塑專攻,2009年於東京藝術大學完成雕塑碩士課程。她以木雕為主要媒材,創作融合鮮明色彩與可愛造型,探討「居場所」與「他者存在」等主題,作品展現她對現代社會中個體與空間關係的深刻思考。其作品曾於東京、紐約、台北等地展出,並獲藝大藝術廣場大賞、via art 2008評審獎等。岐阜縣美術館、太宰府天滿宮等機構皆有收藏其作品。
Born in 1983 in Nagasaki, Japan, Emi Katsuta graduated with a degree in sculpture from Aichi University of the Arts in 2007 and earned her MFA in sculpture from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2009.
She primarily works with wood sculpture, combining vivid colors and charming forms to explore themes such as “a sense of place” and “the presence of others.” Her representative series include Someone’s Whereabouts and Moonlight Shadow, which reflect her deep contemplation of the relationship between individuals and space in contemporary society.
Katsuta’s works have been exhibited in Tokyo, New York, Taipei, and other cities. She has received accolades such as the Geidai Art Plaza Grand Prize and the VIA Art 2008 Jury Award. Her sculptures are part of public collections including the Gifu Prefectural Museum of Art and Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
